Haruka Nanami, an aspiring composer from the countryside, longs to write music for her beloved idol, Hayato Ichinose. Determined to accomplish this goal, she enrolls into Saotome Academy, a highly regarded vocational school for the performing arts.

Upon her arrival, Haruka soon learns that everyone on staff, including the heaster, is either an idol, a composer, or a poet. To top it all off, she is surrounded by incredibly talented future idols and composers, and the competition among the students is fierce; with the possibility of recruitment by the Shining Agency upon graduation, the stakes are incredibly high. As she strives to reach her dream at the academy, one fateful night, a series of events lead Haruka to a mysterious man standing in the moonlight, and he seems a bit familiar...

Personally i love this anime.
i see alot of people saying its all pink cutesy shit but its really not. on legend star shit goes down man. anyways the characters were very nicely plotted i think they all had a solid background, and after you start watching them awhile you would think their personality is massively different but they all somehow become best friends which i think is quite nice and creates amazing comedy. The art was amazing especially if your picky about art personally 10/10 for that. As you can see my enjoyment is a lot and i really like this anime. Overall i really ... like it and really recommend it.

Mixed Feelings

Highly recommend for: Fans of visual kei, fairy kei, J-pop and C-pop, and handsome boys like NOCTIS Lucis Caelum come to life... or if you're a fan of Suwabe Junichi and just want hear him say seductive things. If you enjoyed 'Kamigami no Asobi' or 'Bonjour Koiaji Pâtisserie (Bonjour Sweet Love Patisserie)', this anime will also be totally up your alley.

Do not recommend for: Everyone else

Full reiew: Judging from the negative comments, I was sincerely expecting the worst. Went in with a very low bar and was pleasantly surprised. From the get go, the protagonist's voice pissed me off, but that's because I dislike Sawashiro ... Miyuki's high-pitched whine (she plays Sasada Jun in Natsume Yuujinchou). Aside from her, no complaints about any of the voice actors - they were amazing. I came for Suwabe Junichi (he plays Seiji in Natsume Yuujinchou), and got what I wanted.

From the first episode with the heaster / principal, I treated the series like a comedy, which made it easier to watch. Taking this anime seriously will likely leave you feeling disappointed, and I'm here to be entertained. It starts with one girl's ambitious dream to make it in the [Japanese] music industry, which is a pretty noble goal in itself. The problem is that the "music school" environment and ing characters are extravagant to the point that it feels unrealistic - and takes away from what could've been an otherwise heartwarming show.

Like it's all good to have the usual "prestigious academy with gardens and architecture rivaling an Ivy League university" setting, as is common in this genre... but it felt like the creators couldn't decide how far they wanted to go with an elite student body, and just jammed everything in. A-list celebrity teachers, magical animals, Aztec tribes, and kindergarten children singing like angel choirs. That, coupled with the highly saturated rainbow of colours in every scene, made it quite hard to focus.

Related to this: the protagonist's eyes. Having yellow eyes can be done well - but the artists coloured her pupils light green...
which, from a design and accessibility standpoint, means that there is almost 0 contrast. It makes it difficult to read the character's expressions, and looks lifeless at best. Uncomfortably weird at worst.

Going back to characters - Hijirikawa Masato quickly became my favourite (he has a very strict and suffocating family, which is something I can relate to). And the protagonist, despite her flaws, did have one good moment. Early on in the series, she suffers from a creative block. This can be fatal to a creative professional (or ionate artist), and I'm sure there are others out there who can relate to this moment. The anime handled it beautifully, and I got emotional watching it (I was shocked!!).

Sadly, that was the only story highlight for me. While it was nice to see the characters' relationships progress through songs - because that's what it was, each song was, essentially, a confession of love and life - I felt the overall entertainment went downhill afterwards. There were a lot of cheesy scenes towards the end - so much so that it became quite cringe worthy to watch.

Re: songs
I think most of the reviewers are sadly, not acquantined with international music. Pop music... IS mainstream music in many parts of East Asia. These songs would easily be popular in the Japanese or Mandarin industry. For some people to give low ratings on the music based off a foreign culture one is not a part of, and not even familiar with... speaks volumes about them. I wasn't in love with most of the songs, but I didn't think they were terrible either, just ordinary.

In summary, be your own judge! If you do give the series a shot, I'd recommend watching Episode 1 - 6, and then skimming the rest unless you truly enjoy it.

Shows in this vein are somewhat fascinating to me. The only reason they seem to exist is to sell copies of whatever game or other media they are associated with. When I was younger I had an almost guilty pleasure association with them because they are deeply contentless, unless you enjoy lots of candy coloured bishounen with glossy plastic personalities. Despite how mass manufactured they all are, there is still a gradient of quality within this particular sub-genre. For example. Diabolik Lover is nuclear level cringe, while this show feels more wholesome in it's complete ineptitude. Uta no Prince-sama becomes even more crystalline in it's ... intentions with further seasons introducing EVEN MORE boys to it's roster. It's practically a universal law that increased watch time with the same characters will naturally allow audience to form attachments, and thus improve perceived quality/affection for the series at large. Prince-sama cares nothing for this and continues to more boy toys for you to mingle with in a completely different piece of merchandise. Bizarre. The positive reviews don't exactly surprise me though. Certainly all the boys personalities and looks are distinct, that is the point after all. But does it not irritate people that their particular boy doesn't get more screen time or romantic developments? This sort of shenanigans annoys me enough when there are two male love interests in romance anime and the boy I like doesn't get picked. This is just taking that distinct feeling and maximising it to sadistic levels.
